“ Came here on a Thursday evening just when they opened and the line was pretty short but the restaurant was already packed. The wait wasn't too long only 15 mins. We got seated inside and the decor is very nice. Our server was very nice and took our order. We got the chicken karaage and two original king bowls. The food was pretty good and we enjoyed what we got. A very nice place for ramen in the mall. ”
“ Arrived at 10:40am on a Sunday morning and there were already 60 people in line. Got in around 11:40am. Didn't get there early enough for the crab special. Apparently only 25-30 offered per shift. We ordered the Black King, the Red King, chasu bowl, kaarage, and gyoza. The ramen was truly one the best I've had, from broth the noodles. I tried both the Black and Red King, and each didn't disappoint. I had the standard thin noodles with thin chasu on the Red King and thin noodles but with pork belly and cabbage with the Black King. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the cabbage. The pork belly was more fatty than the chasu, which gave it a little more flavor. My one ding is that I didn't realize the soft boiled egg was extra, so I didn't get to try it. Most times my ramen comes with at least 1/2 a soft boiled egg. Oh well. Next time. Presuming I find time to wait an hour+ in line. :-) The gyoza was pretty good. It was y mind blowing, but it was still tasty. The Kaarage came in fairly large pieces. Each piece had just enough batter for a good crunch. They tasted better than most places I've tried kaarage. The chasu rice bowl was okay. Nothing to brag about. Probably would order it again. This is a great ramen spot. One of the best I've had. I didn't care much for waiting in the long line though. It goes fast, but not fast enough. The place seats around 40, so be prepared to wait and possibly not sit together if you are a group of 5 or more. Just my take. ”
“ I've been to Ramen Nagi on many occasions, and often times have considered them to be the best tonkotsu broth ramen you can experience in the South Bay Area for a long time. It's no surprise that the location here in Valley Fair always has long lines, usually 1-2 hours at the front before you can be seated. What's even more surprising is how I haven't gotten to write a Yelp Review yet. But alas I can write some opinion piece and my most recent experience and how it all culminates to this very point in time. Our draw to this exquisite experience this time around was the limited time Crab King! From what I gathered, it's a deep-fried soft shell crab they serve until March 4th. You want to be the first round during lunch to get a chance to eat this unique bowl, as there is unfortunately a limited number they'll make per day. I wouldn't try to eat this at dinner. Who knows how many they prepare. So what's the verdict? Honestly waaaayyy tooo salty. The crab itself is fine but the batter they use is rather unacceptable. That's how salty it was. And drinking savory broth didn't help. Water is a must to cleanse the palate. It's served with a ton of thin slices of pork and a gratuitous amount of seaweed which is nice in a OG king soup. And disappointingly, the fried crab got soggy for sitting in the soup. Overall, $19 of disappointment. Otherwise you go for the other bowls. My favorite broth is actually the veggie king, as I do believe they make the best vegetarian ramen here as well, but otherwise the original king is a staple for me. You can't go wrong with fried chicken appetizer as I deem these one of the best in the South Bay Area ramen restaurant shops. The rice bowl here itself is fine, if a tad too sweet for my liking, but I wouldn't recommend turning it into a ramen meshi from your ramen broth. The sweetness does not mesh with the savory soup as well as I thought it would... the rice bowl sauce has rather strong flavors. Overall, they'll blast pretty loud, Asian music in the restaurant, anything from J-Pop, J-Rock, anime, video games, and other pop cultures. This time around, it was nonstop K-Pop. ”
“ I've gone to this location a handful of times and I have to say they are always consistent with the quality of the food. I wasn't quite hungry this time so I only got the chashu bowl with an egg and it was rhe perfect amount for me. We also ordered a the chicken karaage to share. If you come during the week day during lunch the wait is not that long ”
“ I expected it to be good, but wow it was really reallyy good! I think Ramen Nagi so far is the best ramen I've ever had. Wish there were a closer location to me! We got on the already long line about 10mins before opening on a Saturday. Luckily we (2) made it in with only a 15min wait. It was okay being seated at the bar seating that faces the back wall versus waiting long for a table. Staff had come around earlier while waiting on line and explained the menu. He handed us a paper menu and magic markers to circle our orders. Smart and efficient idea so by the time we were seated they collected our papers and put our orders in right away. Ramen came out quickly. I ordered the Original King. I customized my broth to have light salt and light oil. I opted for chashu, cabbage, and normal thin noodles. The broth was absolutely delicious. The flavor was so rich! I pretty much drank it all haha. The noodles were perfectly cooked. I didn't think they were that thin. The chashu was pretty good too, I was expecting less meat than I received so that was great. Mushrooms came with it. I'll add an egg next time. Very delicious and filing ramen and only came out to $20! Amazing deal. We should've ordered some appetizers. Can't wait until next time! ”
“ On a rainy day, I utilized the opportunity to return Christmas items at the mall, which proved to be an optimal time to visit due to the sparse crowd. Stormy weather tends to discourage shoppers. Afterwards, I followed my intuition and evaluated the queue at Ramen Nagi, located in Westfield Valley Fair in San Jose, recognized for its outstanding ramen. Noticing a relatively short line, I promptly joined the queue. While waiting, I engaged in conversation with another couple, seeking recommendations for a first-time visitor, and they graciously provided a couple of suggestions. As I was dining alone, I was able to expedite my entry. Once seated at the bar, I ordered the original ramen with the chef's recommendation and was pleased to discover that its reputation was well-deserved. ”
“ Flavor is STRONG AND AMAZING! Love the broth. Always get it with everything Light and less cuz it's so salty if not hahahaha I'm weak and getting old!!! But I love this place cuz it's one of the most consistent restaurants you can go to. Another is Kunjip. But really, every time you go, you literally eat the SAME thing. It doesn't taste any worse or better. I love this stuff Kara-age was just aite, wouldn't get it again unless I have a craving... which is always... soooo good luck to meeeee ”
“ We were craving ramen and Ramen Nagi popped up on the radar. Perhaps it's my old age now, but I dreaded making the trek to Valley Fair, paying for parking, and maneuvering my way around the mall in search of this coveted always-has-a-long-line ramen establishment. Well, I did it and survived. Ramen Nagi is located upstairs, close to Macy's Men's - you'll see it when you see a super long line snaking around. I got there on a weekday around 7pm and estimated there were 60+ people in line, yikes. Debated back and forth whether it was worth the wait and ultimately decided to wait. I thought I could be clever and order take-out to take to the food court to eat, but alas, they don't do take-out. I suppose that's a could be an offense in the traditional ramen world. The workers will pass out the menu and markers to you while in line so you can start thinking about what to order. It's set up so you can essentially design some of the basics of your ramen (type of meat, noodle thickness, which variety, extras, etc). It took us about an hour in line before getting seated. I ordered the Original King ($15.95) with the default selections (chef's recommendations) and picked pork belly for the meat. Condiments are on the table and don't forget to try the bean sprouts garnish. Food arrived within a reasonable amount of time though they did forget to bring us our soda. Service was fairly casual and I don't recall if they really checked up on us after we were served. The ramen is pretty legit. Savory, full bodied umami broth, though at times I felt it was a tad too salty. Thick slab of tender meat. My only regret was getting the thin noodles rather than the thick ones. The thin noodles were the default order but I felt that they were thinner than typical ramen noodles and the thicker noodles seemed closer to spec (if that's a thing haha). I definitely prefer the chomp of thicker noodles and feel the larger surface area grabs more broth aka flavoring and each bite is way more satisfying. Oh well - next time, I'll remember to try the thick noodles. Overall, Ramen Nagi is a pretty legit ramen place. Would I wait an hour next time? Eh, I'm not sure and the weekend wait is probably going to be way worse than my 7pm weekday visit. If it was down to 30 minutes or so, I'd say it's worth it. ”
“ Had Ramen Nagi twice in a week, so this will be a condensed review! The line is usually long, averaging a 1+ hour wait. I went on a Sunday and a weekday and it was about the same. You fill out your menu in line when the staff comes by and once you're seated, the food is out super quick. MY ORDER - Original King: Normal salt, richness, garlic + Chashu + Green Onions + 1 Spicy + EXTRA FIRM Thin Noodles (trust me!) I've tried both the chashu and kakuni (pork belly) but I think the ramen itself is rich/fatty enough for me personally, so I prefer the chashu! Kakuni is still delish though! It's hard to rate properly out of 5 stars because your meal is completely customizable to your own liking, but I would say that for normal/recommended salt, it's pretty salty. Both times I got normal salt, and my friends also recalled the broth being saltier than expected. Wasn't sure if it was just those days, but I would opt for lighter saltiness next time. Nonetheless, this is the ramen I crave - Extra firm noodles!! ”
